Use records to establish what is due
Send the odometer reading and any service invoice showing when spark plugs were last replaced. The correct interval comes from the exact engine and maintenance schedule, not a generic mileage rule. If the car was recently purchased and the history is incomplete, say that; Hye Tech can verify the engine and explain what records or checks would help before work is scheduled.
If you are requesting service because the engine shakes, hesitates or loses power, describe when it happens and whether a warning is on. That is a diagnostic question first. A tune-up does not automatically correct a coil, injector, air leak or mechanical fault, and a flashing warning or severe misfire warrants stopping safely rather than continuing to drive.
Check engine layout, parts and estimate
Send the VIN, make, model and engine size so plug type, quantity and access can be confirmed. Some engines leave plugs accessible from above; others require removing intake pieces or following a torque procedure designed for an aluminum cylinder head. Recent repairs or aftermarket modifications can also change access and should be disclosed before dispatch.
The existing $349 starting offer is limited to select four-cylinder vehicles with standard-access plugs and standard engine and cabin filters. It is not a universal quote. Hye Tech verifies whether the specific configuration qualifies and reviews the labor and parts scope before work. If symptoms require testing, the initial diagnostic/service visit starts at $149 and includes up to one hour of initial testing.
Arrange a South Pasadena work window
Tell us whether the vehicle will be in a private driveway, permitted building garage or another approved space. The Mission Street and Fair Oaks Avenue area has different curb and parking conditions from a residential driveway; give the exact address, building access and any garage height restriction rather than relying on a district name. The engine should be cool and there must be room to open the hood.
If an emissions appointment is the reason for requesting maintenance, mention the date and any recent check-engine repair. Replacing plugs is not a guarantee that a vehicle will pass an emissions test or that readiness monitors are complete. Share current warnings and service history so the appointment can be scoped accurately.
Questions about this appointment
Can you replace plugs without knowing the engine?
The VIN or full vehicle details are needed to confirm plug fitment, access and the correct estimate.
Will new spark plugs guarantee a smog test pass?
No. Emissions results depend on the vehicle’s condition and test readiness, not plugs alone.
