On-site used car inspection before you buy in Los Angeles

A pre-purchase inspection gives you an independent mechanical look at a used vehicle before money changes hands. Hye Tech provides on-site used car inspection service in Los Angeles at accessible seller, dealership, home, workplace, or parking locations. The goal of a car inspection before buying is to identify visible or testable concerns, diagnostic-history clues, and red flags that may change your buying decision.

The goal is not to call a used vehicle “perfect.” It is to identify red flags, explain what deserves attention, and help you decide whether to move forward, negotiate, or arrange additional specialist or shop-level testing. Pre-purchase inspections start at $199; final pricing depends on the vehicle, location, access, and requested inspection scope.

What we check

Inspection scope depends on the vehicle, access, seller permission, weather, and safe working conditions. A typical mobile pre-purchase check may include the following areas:

Engine bay & fluidsVisible leaks, fluid condition or level concerns, belts, hoses, mounts, and obvious signs of neglected maintenance.
Warning lights, codes & readinessDashboard warnings and, when supported, stored or pending diagnostic trouble codes plus readiness-monitor status. Recently cleared codes or incomplete monitors can justify deeper follow-up before purchase.
Brakes, tires & visible suspensionAccessible brake, tire, steering, and suspension observations for wear, damage, or concerns worth further inspection.
Battery, starting & chargingStarting behavior and common battery or charging-system concerns that can be evaluated at the vehicle.
A/C & basic electrical functionsAir-conditioning performance and selected electrical functions when they can be safely checked during the appointment.
Road-test observationsWhen the seller permits it and conditions are safe and legal, driving observations can help reveal noises, vibration, braking, steering, or drivability concerns.

Pending codes and readiness monitors matter

A seller can clear diagnostic codes or disconnect the battery before an inspection. That may remove useful fault history and reset emissions readiness monitors. When the vehicle supports it, stored codes, pending codes, and readiness status can provide context about whether the computer has recently been reset or has not completed its self-tests. An incomplete monitor is not proof of a hidden defect by itself, but it is a reason to ask questions and investigate before buying.

What you receive

We explain the concerns found, which items appear more urgent, and what should be investigated further before you buy. If a finding needs shop equipment, body/frame expertise, emissions testing, or deeper disassembly, we will tell you instead of pretending a mobile visual check can answer everything.

How the findings support your buying decision

The useful outcome is not a generic checklist. The findings should help you decide whether to move forward, negotiate based on repair or maintenance concerns, ask for records, request deeper specialist testing, or reconsider the purchase when the risk is too high for your comfort.

What this inspection does not replace

A mobile pre-purchase inspection is not a guarantee against future failure or hidden defects. It does not include destructive disassembly, frame-machine measurements, body or paint appraisal, smog certification, manufacturer-level warranty inspection, or specialized internal-engine testing unless separately agreed in advance.

Before the appointment

Send the year, make, model, mileage, seller or vehicle location, and the listing link if available. If you have the VIN, known warning lights, recent repair information, or specific concerns, include those too. You are responsible for confirming that the seller, dealer, auction, owner, vehicle custodian, storage or parking facility, or other person controlling the vehicle will allow Hye Tech to access and inspect it and, if requested, permit a road test. Ask the seller not to clear codes, erase warning lights, or disconnect the battery immediately before the inspection because that can erase useful diagnostic history and reset readiness monitors.

Inspection access & refund policy: If our technician has been dispatched or arrives for the confirmed inspection and we cannot inspect the vehicle for reasons outside Hye Tech's control — including denied permission, seller/dealer refusal, the vehicle being under another person's possession or control, unavailable keys, the vehicle being locked, moved or absent, or site/property restrictions — the inspection payment is non-refundable. If Hye Tech is the reason the confirmed inspection cannot be performed, you may choose a refund or reschedule at no additional charge. Read the full policy.

Service coverage

Fast-response scheduling and same-day service may be available across Hye Tech service areas throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities, subject to appointment availability, exact address, vehicle access, job scope, parts, weather, parking rules, and safe working conditions.

Appointment availability depends on the exact location, vehicle, requested inspection scope, seller cooperation, parking rules, and whether there is a safe place to work around the vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

What does a pre-purchase vehicle inspection include?

The inspection focuses on visible and testable mechanical concerns that can be checked safely at the vehicle, such as warning lights, fluid or leak concerns, brakes and tires, starting and charging behavior, A/C performance, and other obvious red flags. The exact scope depends on the vehicle and access.

Can you inspect a vehicle at a seller or dealership?

Yes, when the seller or dealership gives permission and provides a safe, accessible place to inspect the vehicle. The customer is responsible for confirming access before the appointment.

What happens if the seller, dealer, or vehicle custodian refuses access?

If the technician has already been dispatched or arrives and the inspection cannot be performed for reasons outside Hye Tech's control, the inspection payment is non-refundable. This includes denied permission, the vehicle being under someone else's possession or control, unavailable keys, the vehicle being moved or inaccessible, or property/site restrictions. If Hye Tech is the reason the confirmed inspection cannot be performed, a refund or no-charge reschedule is available.

Do you scan for pending codes and readiness monitors?

When supported by the vehicle and appropriate to the inspection, we may review stored and pending diagnostic trouble codes and readiness-monitor status. That information is interpreted as evidence to investigate, not automatic proof that a specific part has failed.

Can recently cleared codes hide a problem?

Clearing codes can remove useful fault history and reset readiness monitors. Incomplete monitors can sometimes indicate a recent reset, but they do not prove a hidden defect by themselves. They are a reason to ask questions and investigate further before buying.

Do you road-test the vehicle?

A road test may be included when the seller permits it and the vehicle, insurance, traffic, and surrounding conditions allow it to be done safely and legally.

Can you guarantee the vehicle has no problems?

No. No pre-purchase inspection can guarantee that a used vehicle has no hidden defects or future failures. The inspection is designed to identify concerns that are visible or testable during the appointment and to flag areas that need deeper evaluation.

How much does a pre-purchase inspection cost?

Pre-purchase vehicle inspections start at $199. Final pricing depends on the vehicle, exact location, access, and requested inspection scope.
