Tell us how the start attempt behaves
Report whether you hear silence, one click, rapid clicking or slow engine rotation. Note if the dashboard dims, a security light flashes or a jump-start changes the result. If the engine turns normally but will not run, that is not the same as a no-crank and requires a different diagnostic approach.
Stop trying if a cable heats up, wiring smells burned or grinding occurs. Include recent battery work, alarm or key replacement, and whether the issue happens when hot. A start-control, relay, interlock or poor connection can imitate a failed starter motor.
Test the starting circuit before parts
A diagnosis considers battery state, cable voltage drop and whether the starter receives a command. A click does not prove the motor is bad. Some starters are accessible from above; others are located behind shields or require safe underside access. Engine configuration changes both the part and the labor plan.
Send year, make, model, engine and VIN if known. Tell us whether the car is in a private garage or a driveway with limited clearance. Hye Tech verifies fitment and the likely fault before estimating a replacement. Additional testing or parts are discussed with you before authorization.
Confirm the San Marino work area
Share the exact address, gate or property instructions and where the car will be parked. A private driveway may work if it is level and accessible; a curb near Huntington Drive or Monterey Road may not provide safe space. Mention low ceilings, steep approaches and whether the vehicle is immobilized.
The initial diagnostic/service visit starts at $149 and covers the mobile visit plus up to one hour of initial testing. Starter replacement is quoted after access and fault are confirmed. If the vehicle cannot be moved, send a photo or description of its position instead of attempting to drive it to another location.
Questions about this appointment
Can a faulty starter still click?
Yes, but a battery, cable or control fault can click too; testing distinguishes them.
What if the engine turns but will not start?
That is a crank-no-start condition and should be booked for diagnostics rather than starter replacement.
