Describe the attempt and dashboard response
Tell us whether the engine clicks once, clicks rapidly, turns slowly or remains silent. Note if the dash lights dim, an immobilizer indicator flashes or a jump-start changed the result. If the engine cranks normally but does not start, request no-start diagnostics rather than assuming the starter is involved.
Stop repeated attempts if wiring smells hot, a cable heats up or grinding occurs. Mention a push-button start, aftermarket alarm or recent battery replacement. A neutral-safety switch, relay or key-recognition issue may prevent the starter command even when the motor is functional.
Test before quoting a starter
A starting-system check considers battery condition, terminal connections, voltage drop and whether the starter receives a command. One click does not prove the starter has failed. Some engines place the starter under shields or require underside access, and seized hardware can change the safe mobile scope.
Send year, make, model, engine and VIN if available. Tell us if the car is in a garage and whether a service vehicle can enter. We confirm part fitment and access after diagnosis and present the estimate before work; no starter is installed simply because the vehicle did not respond to the key.
Coordinate a Hidden Hills appointment
The resident or property contact must arrange gate authorization and identify an approved parking spot. Share entrance instructions, garage height, driveway slope and whether there is room around the engine bay or underbody. A vehicle waiting at a gate or parked in a travel lane cannot serve as a repair workspace.
The initial diagnostic/service visit starts at $149 and includes dispatch and up to one hour of initial testing. Parts and installation are quoted if testing supports replacement. If the vehicle is immobilized inside the property, provide a photo of its position and note any closure or access restriction before the technician is dispatched.
Questions about this appointment
Does rapid clicking confirm the starter is bad?
No. Low voltage, a poor connection or a control fault can cause repeated clicks.
Who arranges gate access for the appointment?
The customer or property contact must authorize the technician and explain visitor procedures.
