Prevent a small warning from becoming engine damage
If the temperature gauge climbs, a warning appears or steam is visible, pull over safely and switch off. Never open a hot radiator or reservoir cap; pressurized coolant can burn. Do not continue toward home because the gauge drops—the engine can be damaged by repeated overheating.
After the engine is fully cool, note where fluid collects and its color without touching hot components. Tell us whether the heater stopped blowing warm air, the fan warning appeared or coolant has needed repeated top-ups.
Locate the source before replacing the radiator
The radiator is one possibility among hoses, water pump, thermostat housing, cap, reservoir, fan and internal engine faults. Accessible residue and system checks can guide diagnosis; pressure testing or temperature verification may be needed to confirm the leak. A replacement without source confirmation may not stop coolant loss.
Radiator work can involve correct coolant handling, refill, air bleeding and a temperature-cycle check. Vehicle packaging and available space matter. A severe overheat, unsafe leak or suspected internal damage may call for a tow and shop evaluation instead of an on-site replacement.
Prepare the Winnetka parking area
Tell us whether the car is parked in a driveway, apartment lot or curb near Sherman Way, Winnetka Avenue or Roscoe Boulevard. Fluid handling calls for a stable, authorized work area with room at the front of the vehicle. Do not start an overheating engine to move it for convenience.
Provide the year, make, model, engine and warning history. The $149 diagnostic/service visit covers dispatch and up to the first hour of initial testing; a radiator and cooling-system estimate follows assessment and your approval.
Questions about this appointment
Is a radiator the only cause of overheating?
No. A fan, thermostat, pump, hose, cap or internal engine problem can create similar symptoms.
Can I drive after the temperature warning disappears?
Repeated overheating can still damage the engine. Stop safely and get guidance instead of relying on a temporary gauge drop.
