Find out why the car will not hold a charge
Slow cranking or repeated jump-starts can come from a weak battery, corroded terminal, damaged cable, poor ground, charging problem or an electrical load left on. A jump that starts the engine does not prove the battery is the only problem. Testing should establish whether it can hold charge and whether the vehicle charges correctly when running.
If the vehicle has been sitting for days or the complaint began after accessory installation, mention that timing. A new battery can be drained again if the underlying charging or key-off draw remains unresolved.
Choose the correct battery and setup
Battery dimensions and electrical specifications vary with engine and equipment. AGM, enhanced flooded and conventional batteries are not interchangeable in every application.
