Record what the vehicle does, not just the code
Say whether the engine cranks normally, turns slowly, clicks or stays silent. For a stall, note whether it occurs hot, cold, at idle, on a hill or while turning. A check-engine code can identify a system or circuit for investigation, but it does not by itself prove that the named sensor or part has failed.
If the vehicle has an intermittent issue, avoid clearing codes or disconnecting the battery before the visit when practical. A photo of dashboard messages or a short recording of the sound can help distinguish conditions that are hard to describe over the phone.
Diagnostic scope at the vehicle
Mobile testing may combine scan data with battery, voltage-drop, connector, visual or operating checks. The next test depends on the evidence. A single battery reading cannot confirm alternator operation; a code scan cannot rule out a mechanical problem or intermittent wiring issue. We explain what has been established and what remains uncertain.
Shadow Hills driveways can slope sharply, so diagnosis requiring only hood access may be possible where lifting is not. Tell us if the car is behind a gate, on a grade or parked on an unpaved surface before we confirm the work.
Prepare for an effective appointment
A mobile diagnostic/service visit begins at $149, covering the visit and up to the first hour of initial testing. Further testing or repair work is reviewed before it is added.
If the car is stopped in an unsafe place, do not attempt roadside testing in traffic. Arrange a tow or safe relocation first. Some programming and high-voltage hybrid diagnostics require equipment beyond a routine mobile visit.
Questions about this appointment
Will a scan tell me exactly what part to replace?
Not always. Codes narrow the area to investigate; electrical, mechanical and operating checks are often needed to confirm the failed component.
Should I disconnect the battery to clear a warning light?
Usually not before diagnosis. It can erase useful stored information and may introduce relearn steps. Keep the fault data when it is safe to do so.
